The new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect on 25th May 2018.

This means that there is a new framework to protect your integrity and the security of your personal data*. The responsibility lies with all companies and organisations that you are in contact with.

Map Project is developing an application to allow individuals to register a precise, complete and easy to use address. This means that we collect and handle personal data* and are obliged to follow the new regulation.

The GDPR gives you the right to:

  • be informed about the processing of your personal data;

  • obtain access to the personal data held about you;

  • ask for incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete personal data to be corrected;

  • request that personal data be erased when it’s no longer needed or if processing it is unlawful;

  • object to the processing of your personal data for marketing purposes or on grounds relating to your particular situation;

  • request the restriction of the processing of your personal data in specific cases;

  • receive your personal data in a machine-readable format and send it to another controller (‘data portability’);

  • request that decisions based on automated processing concerning you or significantly affecting you and based on your personal data are made by natural persons, not only by computers.

    You also have the right in this case to express your point of view and to contest the decision.

With Map Project you are in charge of your personal data and decide how and when to share the information with. You can always delete or edit your account, and if you wish to delete it altogether.

*Article 4 of the GDPR defines personal data as follows: ‘personal data’ means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (‘data subject’); an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person.
